At Wink Artisans you'll find bright, bold, & colorful jewelry and crafts. Inspiration comes from Latino, Mexican folk art, nature, and Old World iconography. Themes include Day of the Dead, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Frida Kahlo, Sacred Hearts, religious iconography, ocean life, etc.
Behind the Scenes at the Shop:
Wow, working with metals is amazing! I truly enjoy shaping metal and giving it life. I must admit, that from time to time, I want to curse it. Especially, when I've hammered my fingers. Working with metals requires patience, time and lots of breathing exercises. LOL
I've been lucky to win three awards at the San Diego County Fair, Gem, Minerals and Jewelry Competion 2009: 1st place First Place, All Metals Fabrication Amateur Category, Second Place, Student Work Category, and Third Place, Best of Show Category
Most recently, I was a semi-finals nominee for the Accessories Artist of the Year RawAwards 2011, award given by RawArtists.
Tips and Tricks
- Cold connections: this is a great way to bind two metal surfaces together. It consist of drilling holes on the two metals and placing a small piece wire that is then hammered on both ends to expand the metal wire ends.
- Another great material is monofilament or fishing line. It works that same way only that the ends are slightly burned to make the filament expand. Give it a try!
