Name:
Fabric Mosaic Blue Star Banner
What I Made
I took the original Blue Star Banner and made it my own by making it to look like a mosaic, only with fabric.
How I Made it
A friend of mine is a member of the Blue Star Mom's and she asked me if I could make a Blue Star Banner. She knew that I started making quilts about 2 1/2 years ago and one piece that I made was a mosaic sun with fabric. She asked me what I could come up with. She also wanted the soldiers military branch embroidered on the front. I had it worked out by the next day. What I have done is I take Steam a Seam and traced "mosaic pieces" onto one side. Then I ironed these pieces onto the fabric. I used different red, white, and blue fabrics. After I iron the Steam a Seam onto the fabric I then iron these pieces onto a black fabric. I then sew around each piece. After that is done, I then quilt it.
Tips and Tricks
- For any quilt or wall hangings I have learned that the best way for me to sew the top first. For example, on the stained glass wall hangings I sew the bias on BEFORE I add the batting and the backing. I found that it looks so much better on the back since the only stitching you have is the quilting ones.
