Glass Sea Anemone Pendant

http://www.glasspeace.comWhat I Made
Using borosilicate glass and an oxygen and propane torch, I make sea anemone pendants. I make them in many different colors and sizes.
How I Made it
I start out with a clear glass rod. I spin the end of the rod in the flame to create a gather of glass. I flatten the end of the rod to create a disc. I layer and/or mix colored glass rods and pull them down to 1mm thick rods called stringers. I use the stringers to draw the sea anemone design onto the disc. When the design is finished I quickly spin the disc in the flame. As the design is melted in, the clear glass flows over the colored glass, causing the design to compress and implode into the clear. I finished by adding a loop and sometimes a colored backing, and set it in the kiln to anneal overnight.
Tips and Tricks
- Don't drink too much coffee, drawing the design will be extra difficult!
