Sew the Patches with a Zigzag Stitch

Rain Blanken
Affix your patch to your garment using a glue stick or fusing paper. Either one will hold your patch in place while you sew.

Through frequent washings, a patch like this will fray. To prevent it from fraying, you need to use a tight zigzag stitch along the edges. Above is an example of zigzag stitch settings on a sewing machine. You will want to use the setting that makes the threads lay right next to each other. You can zigzag stitch by hand, but a sewing machine offers much faster and durable results. This is also known as a satin stitch when the zigzags are so close together.
