Bloody Halloween Necklace from Weirdly Cute

Kerri McAlpin
When I think of Halloween jewelry, I'm usually pondering bat bangles and faux fang earrings. When I stumbled upon the Weirdly Cute Halloween collection by Kerri McAlpin, my vision of creepy jewelry changed completely. Putting her jewelry making skills to work, she's created Halloween designs that will have your neckline dying for more. Join us as we talk to Kerri, and see some more photos of her work along the way.

Tell us a bit about who Kerri McAlpin is, and what makes her so incredibly creative.
I'm 23 years old, and I've been making the kind of jewelry that I make now for about 8 years. I've always had a knack for creating with my hands and making things. Halloween has always been my favorite time of year because I love making costumes and usually start working on them months in advance!

I also love creating in the kitchen. I am always creating new recipes and experimenting with ingredients, and I love to bake (and decorate) themed cakes and cupcakes. Making jewelry is a side job for me right now - I work for my father's basement waterproofing company doing sales, job supervision, office work, website maintenance, and anything else that needs to be done. It keeps me extremely busy! When I was in high school one of my summer jobs was teaching craft classes for 4 to 9 year-olds. One of my older co-workers had done craft fairs and made jewelry for years, and she helped me get together a jewelry camp program for 12 to 16 year-olds for the following year, so I got to be a counselor for that. It was so much fun! I make everything from chainmaille jewelry to wire pendants and wire wrapped pieces, and I do a bit of beaded work. I love a challenge, and experimenting with new mediums.
