A hand-held tool with a pointed tip that is small enough to slip under single stitches. The seam ripper has a small sharpened hook that will slice the thread quickly as you slide the seam ripper through a line of stitching. This is much faster than trying to cut each seam stitch with scissors.
This tool is indispensable if you are ever hemming, altering, or taking apart any clothing. Keep the metal parts on your seam ripper dry to prevent dulling and rust. Seam rippers are inexpensive and can be found at craft and department stores in the sewing section. See more information on seam rippers.
