Eastern influences have done a lot for the world of fantasy, and fantasy is a large part of the gothic subculture. Silks with intricate patterns, folding fans and thin pencil skirts conjure dark images of Lucy Liu's character O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill or any score of unholy horror anime characters ala Vampire Princess Miyu.

Black and white is a great application to the traditional Chinese prints and Japanese kimono-style tops, bringing the embroidery to a high contrast that can't be ignored.
