The Bottom Line
Pros
- With lots of materials, there is lots of room for creativity.
- This kit can be a good exercise in fashion design.
- The earrings are cute and durable.
Cons
- Once assembled, most of the accessories fall apart easily.
- The quality really isn't worth the $15.00 price tag.
Description
- Includes the materials to make a metallic belt, a satin belt, an elastic headband, a bracelet and a hard plastic headband.
- The kit is mostly glue and sticker decorating. It comes with glitter, sequins, glue, stickers and a small length of ribbon.
- The sequins on the belt will pop off if you try to thread it through belt loops. Wear it over a shirt, as shown on the box.
- Don't put stickers on the headbands, unless you want them stuck in your hair. Save them for paper projects, instead.
- The plastic stars in this kit can also be used as zipper pulls.
- Be sure that the glitter is completely dry before you try to wear any of your creations.
- The earrings will stay together, and are actually pretty cool.
Guide Review - Hannah Montana Accessory Kit
When I first saw this kit, I thought that it looked like a cheese ball attempt by Disney to jump on the DIY bandwagon. Well, in spite of that truth, this little kit can still be a fun and creative exercise for little fashion designers. One thing that this kit will teach is a trial-and-error approach to DIY fashion. Projects dont always turn out as planned, and in this kit, you arent going to get what appears on the box. It can also be a valuable lesson that just because Hannah Montanas name is on the box, it doesnt mean its going to be fabulous.
The kit makes for a fun and easy project, but the end result is not durable. Decorating the satin belt with glitter simply does not work, as the glitter will peel right off of the satin surface. The box also shows the elastic headband decorated with paper stickers. Once the elastic stretches, the stickers loosen and now you have a hair and sticker cocktail to deal with. Only the earrings will stay put together.
If you are thinking of buying a fun DIY kit for that little fashionista in your life, I would only recommend this product as a fun project to enjoy together. Use these accessories as a way to get creative with the design. Prepare your daughter, niece or cousin by letting her know that this kit is more for having fun with than actually creating durable and wearable items.
In the end, the Hannah Montana creations will only last a few wears. Take what you can from the creative process and go out and buy the right materials to make something more permanent. Don't leave your girl with the impression that all DIY fashion is like Hannah's flimsy kit. Try making a durable and personalized photo frame bracelet, instead.
