Tie an Overhand Knot

Overhand knots are easy to learn.

Cut two lengths of thread that are three times the size that you need to go around your wrist. Remember that you need to have a few inches left to tie it around your wrist, too. Fold thread in half and tie in a knot so that you have a loop. Safety pin this loop to a pillow to keep it in place while you tie knots.

To make a spiral friendship bracelet, you'll need to know how to do an 'overhand' knot. Lay one colored set of strands down the middle, and another to the left side, shown here in yellow and gray. Pass over the yellow strands with the gray, looping under, and through. Pull to the right as you tighten each knot.

Next, you'll see how to alternate colors.
