December 21st was the official first day of Winter. It also proved that all my January work would still be waiting for me, as the Mayan calendar failed to destroy us all. Oh well, maybe next year.
But that special brand of mortal foreboding lives on in my new favorite series, Game of Thrones, introduced to me by Iggy and Lucy Lang (the same fine people who matched me with the photographer of my latest book). They are the kind of dear friends who can effortlessly pin down your next obsession, so I knew that heeding their advice would turn up something good. Now there's no turning back. If you haven't seen the HBO series yet, think Lord of the Rings with more blood and nudity. It's just for the adults in the audience, kids (and no, I don't mean naked hobbits. Eww.).
Taking an interest in an all-encompassing world like Game of Thrones just before the holiday season meant that my wish list ran along a tangible theme. I not only received the four George Martin books that inspired the TV series, my husband also presented me with this handmade treasure from Pretty Little Charms.
Literally taking a page from George Martin's books, Pretty Little Charms crafted this gorgeous pendant bearing an infamous line from the Game of Thrones universe, 'Winter is Coming', coupled with a silver wolf charm (also significant to the story). I love that the pendant holds a real page from one of the books, commemorating these solemn words like a talisman. Check out Pretty Little Charm's Etsy shop to see which charms she's infused with your favorite authors. She's got Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight... you name the anthology, I bet it's there. Happy reading!
