After a long weekend of costuming panels and lots of blue makeup on my part, the MARCon convention is over and I have a lot of photos to sift through. This year there were a lot of gothic and scary costumes to fit the MARCon 45: Necropolis horror theme, but there were also lots of old favorites from comics and sci-fi movies.
Our group went as Farscape characters, and a few months of working on our get-ups paid off with awards for having some of the top Hall Costumes. In the end, a pint-sized cosplayer around kindergarten age took the Best Hall Costume prize for her cute Kiki's Delivery Service costume, complete with a little stuffed kitty. Her grin was priceless, and what a great way to encourage homemade costuming. My guess is that she will be back next year with a new creation.
On Friday, I assisted with a panel on zombie makeup and costuming, where we had people stumbling around the room doing their best zombie shambling and discussed some of the best ways to make fake blood. On Saturday, The Columbus Zombie Walk came through the halls, with everything from zombie babies in strollers to a zombie ballerina.
Check out the Gallery of MARCon 2010 Costumes, and let me know if you see yourself in the mix. I'd love to add your name and some costuming insights to your photo. Don't see yours? Let's add it to the gallery. Send me an email at diyfashion.guide@about.com, or upload your photo and description right now.
