Tying Up Vintage
Recently, I helped my mom clean out a closet in her home that still had a lot of my grandma's clothes in it. My mother used to be a model in the 70's, and my grandma certainly could have been one if the profession were more accessible to her in the 40's. Throughout Grandma's life, she was always buying the latest styles, which can sometimes make for hilarious closet contents. High-waisted shimmering poncho dress, anyone?
There were some really great pieces that aren't exactly timeless, but were designer goods that will drift in and out of fashion for the decades to come. My favorites were these blouses that Grandma had in spades, these patterned numbers with starched button cuffs and collars, each with a matching scarf. When did this idea die? I love the matching-scarf-sold-with-every-shirt idea. I can tie the scarf around my neck, use it as a thick headband or on a ponytail...I can even fold it into a quick bow and pin it to a jacket to match the shirt underneath.
Good thing me and grandma wore the same size. We didn't exactly get along when she was around, but I'm slowly finding out that we were a lot alike. Here's to my slow decent into scarves and insanity.

Rain, that’s fabulous!! When my Grandmother passed away 7 years ago, I was dying to dig through her clothes. Imagine my disappointment when another family member had already grabbed them at took them to goodwill. I was (and still am!) bummed. That shirt is rockin’! (And you look fab!)
My Grandmother and I don’t get along that well either, but that woman is always after my shoes! She loves my taste in shoes and we wear the same size. Sometimes I have given in and shared a pair with her! She trends toward pull overs and elastic waist pants now, but I did like her style when she was younger – I think most of her cool clothes ended up at Goodwill too.
