Stylista Danielle is Fat.

Wednesday November 19, 2008
I've been hearing promo's all day for tonight's episode of Stylista, which allude to a catastrophe concerning Danielle's girth. My ears perked because I know I'll be writing about the episode later tonight. The radio and television spots begin by saying that Stylista is going to get 'heavy' tonight, and continues with a clip of one of the catty housemates saying that her weight issue is the 'elephant in the room'. Danielle doesn't seem to share in the opinion that she has a weight problem. "I'm not disgusting, I'm like, normal!"

It is understandable for the clips to include direct quotes from the other contestants, but should the announcer be making direct puns about Danielle's inability to fit into the clothes in the Elle wardrobe? If I were Danielle, I'd feel betrayed by the producers of Stylista for giving the announcer a script that ridicules her in front of millions.

Is this something that Danielle should have expected when she signed up with the show?

Because of these promos, I WILL NEVER BUY AN ELLE MAGAZINE and NEVER watch Stylista ever again. No wonder half of America’s females shove their fingers down their throats.

Horrible… absolutely horrible…

What does it say about a womens fashion magazine that they have a mans suit but not one thing for a plus size women. They picked these contestants. I smell set up.
Its interesting that danielle says to the wafe
like contestents that you have more issues with your weight then I have. the whole show
was bulit around danielles weight and then she is sent home. Lets just let women know that your hard work does not cut it when you dont fit the part or the dress.

I have to admit that the whole thing was very contrived. I wonder what Tyra Banks has to say about the kind of image that she is carving out for women, when she went on a rampage not too long ago about her own weight.

I agree, pat, that they knew what was in that closet before they send the contestants in there, and they knew what was going to happen.

It was the typical “pick on the fatty” scenario. The producers knew there wouldn’t be much for Danielle to fit in, I wish they’d have a plus-size gal on TV who had some self-esteem for once.

Someone who’d have said to hell with it, I want to be an editor not a model. I guess Danielle is young, and still figuring out who she is and accepting her body (like most women of any size). It can be tough (I know) but being placed on a spotlight in the show was to be expected. She should have been yes I am fat get over it; I’m here to be the next Jr. Editor you all can pretend to be models. Hell she should have complained isn’t this a form of discrimination? I think out of all the discrimination weight is one that is still okay for some (which should NOT be). Like when the slender gal said, well everything looks better on a tall, slender woman. This is her view, some may disagree my point is I didn’t expect much from this show so I’m not to disappointed. Same sh..

I have never watched Stylista and have no idea who Danielle is, other than through this post and your comments. But what I find so alarming in the media and pop culture is this false image of “normal”. Being below a healthy weight is actually more detrimental to the body than an equal amount of overweight poundage.

However, this is not to say that being overweight is good! Research shows 63% of American adults are overweight. 78% of adults in England are overweight. In America, childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past two decades. In addition, researchers say that between 5 to 10 million Americans will be suffering from an eating disorder during one year’s time, and the numbers are increasing.

It is all too sad that Stylista choose to continue living in the media fantasy world that builds false expectations and definitions of beauty and attractiveness. They could have accomplished a lot to help break the destructive cycle of how so many of us look at our bodies and weight. Instead, through this apparently pretty blatant attack of someone with whom the only problem they had was her weight, they have just proven how FUBARed the fashion industry continues to be.

Give me DIY fashion, any day!

Angie, If only you knew the real way it happened, its obvious that they edited the way they wanted to. What you don’t know is that Danielle does not have a problem with her self esteem she is actually very happy with who she is and what she looks like if she wasn’t she would have never gone on that show I know for a fact she is very happy with herself, and if you forgot the scene where she tells the other girls that they have more issues with there bodies then she does its true, I know at least one who has an eating disorder, They say its reality TV but its really not…
